'Proper Hammering... Tough to Digest': KL Rahul Explains Where LSG 'Lost the Game' vs KKR
Gutted over the loss, LSG skipper KL Rahul said the outcome they obtained is hard to digest, hoping that the team will learn from their mistakes and bounce back in the next game.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) excelled at home on Saturday, thrashing Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 8 wickets at Eden Gardens. The KL Rahul-led side was restricted to 160-odd for the third game in a row this season but failed to defend it against an in-form KKR batting line-up. Phil Salt’s magnificent 89 not-out complemented pacer Mitchell Starc’s brilliant bowling show to begin KKR’s five-match home stretch with a one-sided win.

Salt smashed three sixes and 14 fours in his 47-ball 89 not out, while captain Shreyas Iyer overcame a wobbly start to remain unbeaten on a run-a-ball 38 as KKR chased down the target of 162 with 26 balls to spare. Earlier, Starc returned 3/28, while Sunil Narine registered figures of 1/17 in his miserly spell as LSG scored a below-par 161/7 after KKR opted to bowl.

Gutted over the loss, LSG skipper KL Rahul said the outcome they obtained is hard to digest, hoping that the team will learn from their mistakes and bounce back in the next game.

“It was a proper hammering. Games like these are tough to digest and we have seen in IPL and every team goes through that. We will try and work out what went wrong and come back better,” said LSG skipper Rahul.

LSG showcased a shambolic batting show against the Knight Riders on Saturday afternoon. While Nicholas Pooran top-scored with a 32-ball 45, Rahul and Ayush Badoni were the only batters to make a little impact wi b

b/bf/th the bat. The skipper said their batting plan wasn’t executed well and as a result, the team couldn’t put enough runs on the board.

“The shots that we played in the first innings, didn’t execute well and kept losing wickets in bunches and we could have got a lot more runs and that’s where we missed and lost the game,” Rahul added.

Joesph needs to work on Consistency

The LSG handed debut to West Indies pace sensation Shamar Joseph against KKR but the right arm quick had a forgettable outing. He started off with a 10-ball over and leaked 22 runs before returning 0 for 47 in 3 overs. Rahul said Joseph bowls quick but needs to work on his consistency.

“Shamar Joseph is bowling pretty quick, Shamar was very excited and wanted to bowl fast, sprayed it around a little bit but that happens when you are playing your first game in the IPL. He needs to work on consistency in line and length, obviously got the ball to swing and seam around in the powerplay,” he added.
