Ravindra Jadeja Becomes Fifth India Bowler to Take 200 Test Wickets at Home
Allrounder Ravindra Jadeja has also crossed the milestone of 500 wickets in first-class cricket.

India allrounder Ravindra Jadeja on Saturday completed 200 Test wickets on home soil. Jadeja dismissed England captain Ben Stokes after the lunch break on Day 3 of the third Test in Rajkot to achieve the feat and became the fifth Indian bowler to do so.

Jadeja has joined a star-studded list that includes legendary names including Anil Kumble, Ravichandran Ashwin, Harbhajan Singh and Kapil Dev.

Kumble has the most wickets by an Indian at home with 350 scalps followed by Ashwin who has 347 to his name. Harbhajan took 365 while Kapil, the only fast bowler in this list, took 219 wickets.

Jadeja took two wickets in England’s first innings to help India bowl them out for 319, a remarkable collapse as the tourists lost their last five wickets for the addition of just 20 runs.

Jadeja also reached the milestone of 500 first-class wickets in what is his 125th such match. In Tests, the left-arm spinner has 282 wickets so far including 12 five-wicket hauls.

Earlier in the contest, Jadeja scored 112 in India’s first innings to help them recover from 33/3 as he stitched a double-century stand with captain Rohit Sharma for the fourth wicket.

During the course of his innings, he completed 3000 runs in Test cricket. He thus became the third Indian to complete the double of 200 wickets and 3000 runs in the format’s history after Kapil and Ashwin.

India made a dramatic turnaround in the 3rd Test after being pummeled by England opener Ben Duckett who scored a quickfire century as they finished Day 2 at 207/2 in just 35 overs.

However, the third day belonged to India with Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Jadeja combining to trigger a collapse as England were limited to 319-all out. India thus took a big 126-run lead which they had extended beyond 300 runs with Yashasvi Jaiswal hitting a quick hundred.

The five-match series is currently level at one-all.
