A career filled with highlight reels of the finest. Swashbuckling knocks all over the world, double centuries galore, a plethora of IPL trophies, and finally getting his hands on a World Cup trophy as skipper.

Rohit Sharma’s career has been nothing short of the stuff of dreams for all, and the Indian skipper staked his claim, stating that his triumph at the 2024 T20 World Cup as captain was the ‘greatest’ moment of his career so far.

Rohit exhibited sheer calm and composure, as he captained India through an insanely strenuous final innings, where South Africa needed 30 off 30 balls with 6 wickets in hand, to ultimately nab a 7-run win over the Proteas to lift his second T20 World Cup trophy, and his first as a skipper.

After a career where he’s seen all the highs and lows, when asked about whether clinching this World Cup was in fact the greatest moment of his career, there was no second thought for Rohit, but to agree whole-heartedly.

“This has to be the greatest time. I can say that. It’s only because how desperately I wanted to win this. So, all the runs, all the runs that I’ve scored in all these years, I think it does matter, but I’m not big on stats and all of that. I think winning games for India, winning trophies for India, that is what I look forward to all the time,” stated an exhilarated Rohit Sharma.

‘Honestly, I don’t know if it’s the greatest or what but it is definitely one of the greatest, I can say that – and when I have to look back at certain moments in the game as well, they were really playing well.”

Rohit who opened the innings alongside Virat Kohli all throughout the T20 World Cup, also announced that he’s calling it time with his T20 career, just like Kohli did after the triumphant game.

But, his final triumph wouldn’t come easy, as a wily South Africa gave them a proper scare, spearheaded by Heinrich Klaasen.

But, a magical spell in the death, from the likes of Pandya, Bumrah and Arshdeep, sealed the deal, and India took home the gold.

“The message was to everyone that let everything out, put whatever you have in your body, mind, put it in front of us and let’s see then what happens,” quoted Rohit when asked about holding his nerve in the final stages of the thrilling game.

“I thought the belief that everyone had till the last ball was bowled was to keep fighting. We wanted to fight, we wanted to fight and then eventually we managed to cross the line.”
