Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant was visibly disappointed after his team lost to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by a huge margin of 106 runs on Wednesday night. It was their third defeat in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 which took them to the 9th position on the points table.

It turned out to be a tough outing for the DC bowlers who gave away 272 runs in 20 overs, allowing KKR to register the second-highest team total in IPL history. As many as 7 bowlers were taken to the cleaners, brutally hammered by Sunil Narine, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Andre Russell and Rinku Singh.

In reply, Pant top-scored with a 25-ball 55 while Tristan Stubbs contributed with a valuable 55-run knock of 32 balls. But their efforts didn’t suffice to finish the chase of 273. Seven out of 11 batters scored in single digits while three couldn’t open their accounts.

Following the loss, Pant was having a conversation with Rinku when the DC skipper got a pleasant surprise. KKR co-owner and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan walked up to the wicketkeeper-batter and hugged him. The video of the incident has gone viral on social media as the fans praised Shah Rukh for his heart-winning gestures.

‘We were all over the place’

Speaking with the broadcasters after the game, Pant asked his teammates to introspect following the side’s crushing 106-run defeat to KKR.

“Our bowlers were all over the place. We just didn’t turn up on the day. Today was one of those days. As a batting unit, we only wanted to keep going hard as a team. I would rather get all out as a team than not go for the target,” he said.

“Time to reflect better as a team, as an individual and come back strong in the next game. I am enjoying every day and cricket has its own ups and downs, and at the same time you can try and give your best as an individual,” he added.
