Following four back-to-back defeats, Rajasthan Royals finally broke the curse with a crucial victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2024 Eliminator. They will now look to continue the winning run until the final to take home the second title. As the next hurdle, RR will need to overcome Sunrisers Hyderabad, who find themselves in Qualifier 2 after losing the first playoff game to two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders.
SRH will seek redemption when they lock horns with a confident Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan in Qualifier 2. The knockout clash is slated to be hosted at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, May 24.
Sunrisers Hyderabad saw their main weapon– an on-song batting line-up– surrender early in front of the duo of Mitchell Starc and Varun Chakravarthy. The Aussie pacer fetched a three-wicket haul for Kolkata Knight Riders while Chakravarthy got two under his belt as SRH were bundled out for 159. With Shreyas Iyer leading from the front, KKR didn’t have to struggle much to complete the chase as they wrapped up the game in the 14th over.
Rajasthan Royals, on the other hand, sealed the deal with an exceptional bowling show. Ravichandran Ashwin stepped up with an economical spell where he picked two scalps while giving away only 19 in four overs. He was supported by Avesh Khan, who took three wickets. RCB registered a decent 172. Rajasthan’s batting looked a bit shaky. But, a collective effort from Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag, Shimron Hetmyer and Rovman Powell got the job done for the inaugural IPL winners.
