'Was Pretty Nervous and There Was Tension': Rishabh Pant on His Return to Cricket vs PBKS in IPL 2024
Rishabh Pant believes that the loss of Ishant Sharma had affected the side's bowling attack as they start IPL 2024 with a loss by four wickets against the Punjab Kings.

The return of Rishabh Pant after his lengthy absence had an anti-climatic end as the Punjab Kings beat the Delhi Capitals by four wickets in their opening game at the Mullanpur Stadium in Mohali.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Pant believes that the injury to their experienced pacer, Ishant Sharma had an impact during the second innings. While fielding at the mid-wicket region, Ishant rolled his ankle as he looked to throw the ball back to the keepers and was forced out of action. “I think Ishant’s injury was evident in the field, we were already one bowler short because of our batting,” said the DC skipper.

Pant also credited his impact sub, Abishek Porel for his crucial contribution as he scored 32 off just 10 deliveries to help his side set a defendable total. Pant commented,” Abishek Porel did well to give us those extra runs, but we were always one bowler short. The boys did well to drag us back into the match at various stages”.

He also credited him for his contributions despite his inexperience playing in the IPL. ” He’s pretty new (on Porel), 3rd or 4th game (for him), the way he batted was very special, looking forward to more from him as the season moves forward”.

Speaking on his highly awaited return, Pant mentioned that there were nerves as he walked out to bat but did not bother him for too long. He said,”I was pretty nervous, and there was a bit of tension, but I started to enjoy myself. No excuses, having a bowler short was never good, but credit to PKBS for the way they played.”

During his innings, in his very first delivery, he looked to get the boundary towards the third man as he kept low to play the cut shot but was unable to do so. But fans were able to see the Pant they missed as he did manage to strike some boundaries but was dismissed on 19 of 12 deliveries.
