In UP's Azamgarh, Over 100 Schools Have No Electricity
Without electricity, students are deprived of essential resources like computers and digital learning tools.

Did you know that there are numerous schools in Azamgarh without access to electricity? It’s no secret that Indian education needs significant reforms, particularly in terms of infrastructure. Many schools suffer from a lack of basic facilities, including electricity. In Azamgarh, there are a total of 2,706 council schools, out of which 1,724 are primary, 438 are upper primary, and 524 are composite schools. However, 136 of these council schools do not have access to an electricity connection.

To address this issue, the government has recently launched a campaign to introduce new technological advancements and other facilities aimed at improving the functioning of council schools and providing quality education to children. This technological push is vital, as smart classes are severely hindered by the lack of power.

Without electricity, students are deprived of essential resources like computers and digital learning tools, which are becoming increasingly important for modern education. Teachers also face challenges in delivering key lessons, especially in subjects that require multimedia support. As a result, not only is academic progress being hindered, but students’ motivation to attend classes regularly is also affected.

Headmasters and block education officers have made several attempts to provide electricity to these schools, but their efforts have fallen short. As a result, they have escalated the issue to higher authorities, urging the government to resolve the matter. In response, the government has sanctioned Rs 1 crore for this purpose. Despite this, and the funds being paid to the electricity department, the connections have still not been provided.

Rajeev Pathak, an education official, stated that while progress has been made in providing electricity to many schools, some are still awaiting the necessary facilities. He also mentioned that the tender process is ongoing, and electricity connections will soon be provided to the remaining schools.
