On a day out with friends, a 25-year-old Delhi-based man died at a water park located inside a Noida mall. The incident is being probed by the local police, officials said.

According to cops, the deceased Dhanjay Maheshwari along with his four friends visited the Entertainment City water park at the Great India Place (GIP) Mall in Sector 38A on Sunday afternoon.

Before taking the slide, the victim suddenly started having breathing issues and was made to sit on the ground to take rest. Later — when he continued feeling unwell — he was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“After collecting costumes and keeping their belongings in lockers, all the friends went straight to the slide. They arrived one by one and started sliding, when Maheshwari suddenly started having trouble breathing,” a police spokesperson said.

The spokesperson went on to say that Maheshwari was taken to the “nearby Kailash Hospital by an ambulance of GIP Mall authorities, where the doctors declared him dead”.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida) Manish Mishra said that Maheshwari’s family members also reached Noida soon after the incident and the body was being sent for postmortem.

Maheshwari was a resident of Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar, Shivaji Road Extension.

Legal proceedings have been initiated, Mishra said, adding that the cause of death could be confirmed only after the post-mortem is done. On the family’s allegation of negligence on part of the mall’s management, the police officer said the claims are being investigated.
