In 2020, the Tripura government implemented the’save a year’ examination that benefit students who failed up to two subjects in advancing to the next class or gaining college admissions by passing a retest. According to a Hindustan Times report, about 7,000 kids in Class 10 and 12 are likely to sit the exam in late July this year.
Of these students, 1,385 from Class 12 and 2,042 from Class 10 have requested that their test papers be reviewed. The Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) secretary, Dulal Dey, was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying that the test timetable will be revealed within a week, with the exams scheduled for the final week of July. Students must submit their applications to their respective schools from July 8 to 11, and TBSE must get the application forms between July 12 and 15.
The TBSE announced the Class 10 and 12 results on May 24, with pass rates of 87.54 per cent and 79.27 per cent, respectively. 38,559 Class 10 students and 27,627 Class 12 students sat for the regular exam this year. The Class 12 examinations were conducted from March 1 to March 30, and the Class 10 exams from March 2 to March 23.
The ‘save a year’ examination gives students a second chance to reach the minimal threshold of 150 marks, preventing them from losing an academic year owing to failing a few subjects. This effort demonstrates the government’s dedication to assisting students’ academic advancement.
Meanwhile, the Tripura government was working on identifying schools with fewer than 50 students for potential mergers with nearby institutions that have higher enrollments, an official announced last month stated. District education officers have been tasked with pinpointing government schools with low student strength as part of a strategy to enhance the learning system. The goal of this merger is to improve the student-teacher ratio, ensuring more effective education.
Once the identification process is complete, the government will evaluate all factors and may proceed with merging these schools with others located within a 1 to 1.5 km radius.
