Rohit Shetty’s 2011 film Singham starring Ajay Devgn and Kajal Aggarwal Kitchlu marked the beginning of the filmmaker’s cop universe. It was followed by Ajay and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Singham Returns, Simmba headlined by Ranveer Singh and Sooryavanshi starring Akshay Kumar. Up next is Singham Again, which marks the fifth installment in Rohit’s universe. And its trailer has piqued the curiosity of several fans.
A modern adaptation of the Ramayana, Singham Again brings together a bunch of stars like Ajay, Kareena, Ranveer, Akshay and Deepika Padukone. And joining them on this ride are Arjun Kapoor and Tiger Shroff. The one actor missing from this bunch, however, is Kajal, who had played Ajay’s love interest in the first film. In the second Singham film, Kareena essayed Bajirao Singham’s lady love and she’ll be reprising her character in Singham Again as well.
In an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, Kajal addresses her absence from the upcoming action entertainer and says, “It’s difficult to answer if I wished I was a part of Singham Aagin (laughs). But I’ll tell you one thing. As an actor, we’re all very greedy. We always wish that we’re a part of every film that gets made.” But she’s quick to add that she loved the trailer of Singham Again. “It was a smashing one! I’m looking forward for the film to release and I’m waiting to watch it,” she remarks.
Despite her absence from the subsequent films in the cop universe franchise, Kajal states that she has watched all of them. “Of course, I watched all of them and I loved them. I loved how Rohit has connected and tied everything and made an entire universe. I’m an ardent admirer of Rohit Shetty cinema,” says the actor.
And has she kept in touch with Rohit all these years? “It is difficult being in touch because everyone’s busy doing their own thing. I got busy with my films and he got busy with his. Life went on and we just got so consumed with work. But whenever we meet, it’s just like what it was back in those days. It’s the same laughter, the same jokes, us hanging out and chatting. I’ve great respect for him and I really admire him as a person,” Kajal says.
She goes on to thank both Rohit and Ajay for making her Singham shoot days extremely special. “We all had a very good time throughout the making of the film. Everyone was extremely warm. Ajay and Rohit were fabulous people to work with. There was a lot of humour on set and it was a very relaxed shoot. I was very comfortable working with Ajay and I don’t remember being intimidated or having any sort of apprehension. He’s a man of few words and a thoroughly professional. He’s so good at what he does. He was such a perfect co-star!” she tells us.
