Ram Madhvani is gearing up for the final season of his web series, Aarya. Starring Sushmita Sen in the lead, the last four episodes of the third season will be released on Disney+ Hotstar on February 9, 2024. While everyone is eagerly waiting for it, fans were left shocked and concerned when the show’s lead actress, Sushmita, suffered a heart attack during the Jaipur shoot schedule last year.
In a recent exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, Ram Madhvani recalled the time Sushmita had a heart attack. “I am grateful that she is okay. I am relieved and happy that she came back with such strength. In two weeks, she was walking some fashion ramp. Hats off to Sushmita that she came back with such strength and force. I was just happy that she was back and that she was there and that the show is here. It was a health scare. It could have happened to any one of us and I am very happy she is back with us, stronger than before,” he told us.
In the upcoming season, Sushmita’s character Aarya will face a battle with Ila Arun, who will be playing the role of Nalini Sahiba – a mafia queen. It will be interesting to see the battle between two women.
Madhvani revealed that when they first started writing, Nalini Sahiba’s character was not meant to be a female. “It was meant to be a male. A couple of months into the writing session, I walked into the writers’ room and said, ‘Let’s make this character a woman rather than a man’. I am fascinated by the roles that women play. They are mothers, daughters, working women, wives, sisters and so on. I think men are not dealing with so many roles. That’s what fascinates me. Plus, I am surrounded by strong women. My wife is one such person. When I look at all the women I am surrounded by, I am fascinated by how they are dealing with all the stuff that is thrown at them. They do it with such grace.”
However, the director also clarified that Ila Arun wasn’t introduced with the sole intention of breaking gender stereotypes. “I do not walk into a room and say, ‘Let’s break gender stereotypes’. What happens is that I am watching what women are going through and that is fascinating. And therefore, I said that it would be nice if we have a female, rather than a male. She (Aarya) has anyway dealt with men in seasons one and two,” he said.
The director also made it clear that Aarya will eventually be punished for her wrong deeds. “We reveal that she does get shot. In Hindi movies, people come out of jail at the end. She will definitely be punished for whatever bad she did. What we have revealed with that shooting shot is that, it is not like things will work out well with her. It is a tragedy,” he concluded.
