Sibling duo Tusshar Kapoor and Ektaa R Kapoor had first collaborated on Kucch To Hai in 2003. Over the years, they’ve worked together on films like Kyaa Kool Hai Hum, Shor In The City, Shootout At Wadala and The Dirty Picture, among many others. Dus June Kii Raat – where Ekta is serving as one of the producers – is currently streaming on JioCinema and marks their latest collaboration. During an exclusive conversation with News18 Showsha for the same, Tusshar opens up on the equation he shares with his sister.
Talking about how their relationship has changed over the years, he tells us, “We’re very professional. Earlier when we were much younger and did films, we were probably on each other’s cases a lot. We used to argue a lot but we’ve a much better understanding today. We now know how to keep the personal and the professional lives separate. There’s no overlap between the two in that sense.”
During the making of the web series, Tusshar reveals that they never met at work and he barely got the chance to receive feedback from her on the project and his performance in it. “She was involved in the show but it’s actually produced by Vandana Films in collaboration with JioCinema. My sister is one of the associates for this show. She had her own inputs and her own part to play but she didn’t come in to be an active part of the show. In fact, I didn’t interact with her during the making at all,” he says.
Tusshar attributes the same to not living in the same house, which stops them from interacting on a daily basis. “I used to take her about her feedback and inputs from our creative head. We don’t even live in the same house, so we didn’t cross each other’s paths. When we were shooting for Dus June Kii Raat, we met each other only once in a while during dad’s (Jeetendra; actor) birthday and she told me that she had met Priyanka (Chahar Choudhary; co-star) at a Holi party and that she had watched an episode and it looked good,” he adds.
Dus June Kii Raat revolves around a hapless man with notorious bad luck and is themed on superstitions. While Tusshar’s family – particularly Ektaa – is known to be superstitious, a claim she has debunked, is he also a stickler when it comes to certain beliefs? “I’m mildly and ritualistically superstitious. Before every film, I go to Tirupati Balaji but that’s more like faith than superstition,” he states.
The Golmaal and Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai actor may respect his family’s rituals but isn’t a staunch follower of any particular belief. “This time, I couldn’t make it there but took a vow that if it does well, I’ll go for a darshan. I’m not superstitious about pooja paths and dhaagas. I don’t indulge in that. My family traditionally believes in some amount of pooja paths and I’m a part of it, happily so, but I’m flexible,” he adds.
