AC Milan may rope in Sampdoria ace Cassano
It emerged on Thursday that Milan were the driving force behind Cassano's Sampdoria exit.

Milan: AC Milan chief Adriano Galliani is trying to curb enthusiasm regarding Antonio Cassano and while he admits discussions are evolving for the Sampdoria ace, the €5 million clause imposed by Real Madrid has seen transfer traffic hit a red light.

It emerged on Thursday that Milan were the driving force behind Cassano's Sampdoria exit after reports prefigured the San Siro club had struck a deal.

Galliani, though, has other ideas. Unless Real Madrid waive the €5 million clause - inserted in Cassano's Sampdoria deal in 2007 and payable if he leaves Marassi before 2013 - Milan will declare themselves out of a deal.

"Cassano replaces Filippo Inzaghi, even though they have different characteristics. In any case, the deal is not done like many have been saying. We have to see what Samp (Sampdoria) are asking and the agreement with the player," Galliani said.

"Also, we have to understand who will pay Real Madrid the millions they are asking because it will certainly not be Milan."
