Barcelona's Pique out for two weeks
The defender will miss a fortnight of action, after tests on his right thigh showed a strain on his hamstring.

Barcelona: Barcelona defender Gerard Pique will be out for the next two weeks, following his early departure from his team's 3-0 victory over Primera Division rivals Racing Santander on Saturday.

The 24-year-old was re-introduced into the side after missing the win against Sporting Gijon a fortnight ago, but was forced off with a sore hamstring just eight minutes into the match at Camp Nou, where he was replaced by Eric Abidal.

Club doctors immediately examined Pique's right thigh after leaving the field of play, and have since discovered a strain in his right hamstring, with a prognosis of two weeks being confirmed on the La Liga champions' website.

The news will act as a huge blow to Barcelona, who hoped that the defensive lynchpin had overcome his previous woes on the treatment table.

Pique reached 150 official appearances for the champions on Saturday, but could not mark the occasion in style.

Fortunately for the hosts, a brace from Lionel Messi and a Xavi strike sealed all three points for Pep Guardiola's men, who remain top of the Primera Division standings.
