Turin: Gianluigi Buffon is three minutes away from equaling a 22-year record after Juventus beat Sassuolo 1-0 to move provisionally six points clear at the top of Serie A on Friday.

Paulo Dybala scored the only goal of an entertaining match and Juventus kept a 10th successive clean sheet in the league.

Juventus goalkeeper Buffon has not been beaten in Serie A in 926 minutes, now the second-longest stretch in league history.

The unbeaten record in Serie A is held by Sebastiano Rossi, who kept a clean sheet for 929 consecutive minutes for AC Milan from December 12, 1993, to February 27, 1994, beating the previous mark set by former Juventus goalkeeper Dino Zoff in 1972-73 by 26 minutes.

Buffon can match Rossi's record in next weekend's derby match at Torino.

Before that Juventus visit Bayern Munich in the last 16 of the Champions League. It drew 2-2 with the German side in the first leg.

When the two teams faced each other in October, Juventus had won only three of their first nine matches. The four-time defending champion went on to lose 1-0 in Reggio Emilia, finishing the round in 12th spot.

Juventus have won 18 of its 19 matches since then — setting a new club record — and head the standings. Napoli can cut the gap slightly when they visit Palermo on Sunday night.

There were chances for both sides and Sami Khedira should have given Juventus the lead in the 26th minute but he volleyed Dybala's pullback over an empty net from three yards (meters).

Juventus did break the deadlock 10 minutes later as Dybala curled a delightful effort into the top left corner from the edge of the area.

It was Dybala's 14th league goal of the season, a personal best for the Argentina forward, who scored 13 for Palermo last campaign.

Sassuolo threatened on several occasions and Buffon did well to protect his record chase by denying Nicola Sansone in the dying stages.
