Chelsea: Gary Cahill has completed a medical at Chelsea but is not expected to finalise a £7 million move from Bolton Wanderers until either Sunday or Monday, it has been learned.
The England international is at Stamford Bridge on Saturday to watch the club’s Premier League match against Sunderland after agreeing an £80,000-a-week, five year contract with the Londoners.
But Chelsea officials have not yet studied the results of the medical he took at the club’s Cobham training ground and will not sign off the deal until they are completely confident about the player’s physical condition.
Cahill had been in talks with Chelsea for a fortnight after the Premier League club agreed a £7m fee with Bolton before Christmas.
The defender had effectively been accused by manager Andre Villas-Boas of wanting too much money but a breakthrough in the deal was reached on Friday after chief executive Ron Gourlay travelled north to break the deadlock in negotiations.
