Sydney: Former Blackburn Rovers midfielder Brett Emerton will captain an A-League All Stars team against Manchester United in their friendly in Sydney on July 20.
Emerton played for Australia's national team against Manchester United when the English club last toured Australia 14 years ago. He said his memories of those matches were "we got beaten both times and I remember chasing the ball quite a lot."
Emerton enjoyed little more success against Manchester United during his 247 matches for Blackburn in the England Premier League. He returned to Australia in 2011, joining Sydney FC.
Coach Ange Postecoglou said Emerton was the right man to lead the All Stars because he "epitomizes what the A-League is about."
