Houghton quits as India's football coach
Houghton's contract was till the end of the Asia Cup, which concludes in January next year.

New Delhi: India's football coach Bob Houghton, whose contract expires on Jan 31, 2011, on Monday resigned after learning that the All India Football Federation (AIFF) was looking for a new coach.

An AIFF source told IANS that Houghton's contract was till the end of the Asia Cup, which concludes in January next year.

But AIFF general secretary Alberto Colaco, during a visit to Malaysia last month, is believed to have told an agent to look for a new coach.

When Houghton came to know of it, he was furious and decided to put in his papers, the source said.

Houghton is reportedly keen on finalising a fresh contract, and Colaco was on record saying the Englishman will be staying in India beyond the Asia Cup.
