Barcelona: Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta will be sidelined for three weeks with a muscle tear in his left thigh.

Iniesta was injured in the first half of Barcelona's 2-2 draw with Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals on Wednesday and had be replaced just before the half-hour mark by Pedro. Barcelona advanced 4-3 on aggregate score.

Barca initially revealed via Twitter that the player had sustained a thigh problem but it was discovered after tests at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper on Thursday that Iniesta had suffered a minor hamstring tear and is now facing three weeks on the sidelines.

Barcelona also lost forward Alexis Sanchez during the game with a shoulder injury that will keep him out for one-to-two weeks.

Both players will miss Saturday's Spanish league match at Villarreal and the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-finals next week against either Valencia or Levante. Iniesta will also likely sit out the upcoming Primera Division clashes with Real Sociedad and Osasuna, as well as the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie with Bayer Leverkusen.

Worryingly for Iniesta, this is the fourth time that he has been injured so far this season.

Barcelona are already without striker David Villa, midfielder Ibrahim Afellay and defender Andreu Fontas because of long-term injuries.
