Milan: Inter have quashed rumours linking Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez with a move to the San Siro, revealing that the player's salary is too high.
The Italians have been linked with the Argentine in recent months after he handed in a transfer request, which he later withdrew, in December.
But with Uefa's Financial Fair play regulations coming into play in the 2012/2013 season, it is seemingly impossible for Tevez to move to Inter as sporting director Marco Branca looks to balance the books.
"Tevez is a great player, a great character, but absolutely no," Branca told BBC Sport.
"His salary means it is out of the question. The market is crazy at the moment and it is hard to compete.
"He is a great player but a move for him is out of the question.
"We have to organise our finances for the financial fair play rules in the next two years.
"We don't have the same revenues from merchandise and match day as the English sides.
"We are looking for younger players now with great talent, who we can develop."
Branca admitted that they had been interested in bringing other players to the club but were also priced out of those deals.
He continued: "Take Alexis Sanchez, a player we liked, Manchester City raised their bid for him to 35 million pounds plus a bonus, which ruled us out of the race.
"In the end, the player preferred to go to Barcelona and they got him for 28 million pounds and a 8.9 million pounds bonus. Not many clubs can afford that."
Inter are currently without a manager after Brazilian Leonardo left the Serie A giants to head for Paris Saint-Germain.
Branca gave no hint as to who they have in mind, but revealed they missed out on Andre Villas-Boas after refusing to pay the release fee in the now Chelsea manager's contract with Porto.
"We hope to make a decision on the new manager within days," Branca added.
"Villas-Boas likes us and we like him, he was with us for nearly two years but the situation was that he had a clause, like a player.
"The release clause was 13.4 million pounds. We don't want to give Porto a job as well as him, so why should we pay them so much? Chelsea were the only club willing to pay that."
Players like Wesley Sneijder and Samuel Eto’o have been linked with moves away from the San Siro but Branca was adamant that they would be staying for the foreseeable future.
"Sneijder and Eto'o are great players who can change a game in a moment," he said, "so it is normal that great teams should be thinking about them but they are happy here and I don't think they want to leave, and we certainly don't want them to."
