Is Messi the only star in the Argentine team?
The list goes on and on with the likes of Sergio Aguero, Javier Pastore, Gonzalo Higuain making the trip.

New Delhi: Kolkata will play host to a friendly between Venezuela and a star-studded Argentine team on September 2.

A star-studded team, a team which comprises of players like Carlos Tevez, who was the leading scorer for Premier League club Manchester City with 20 goals.

Angel di Maria who has impressed one and all with his sublime skills for Real Madrid, Javier Zanetti who won the Champions League and the Club World Cup with Inter Milan and is considered one of the best defenders in the business.

The list goes on and on with the likes of Sergio Aguero, Javier Pastore, Gonzalo Higuain making the trip.

And yet all the world can think about is Lionel Messi!

Yes, he is the best footballer in the world, yes he is compared to the likes of Diego maradona and Pele, but with him come eleven players who have proven to be match-winners and stars in their own right.

But, on an international front, the Barcelona forward has been anything but at his best failing to convince in the 2010 World Cup as well as in the international friendlies.

But Lionel Messi has broken all records in sight this season scoring past 50 goals in all competitions and breaking the UEFA Champions League record of the most goals scored in the 2010-11 campaign.

It will be a treat to watch the sparkling youngster delight the Indian audiences with his trickery and his sheer skill but when he does pass the ball, he will have the option of passing it to another handful of superstars who will grace the Indian turfs with their presence.

Well, in fairness, had Manchester United travelled to India a decade before, people would have been swooning over David Beckham but only few would have paid heed to footballing greats like Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Roy Keane and Ruud van Nistelrooy who would have quickly disappeared to the dressing room.

In today's time of marketing marquee players, few realise that there can be more than a couple of players who can light up the stadiums and make fans go into a frenzy so do expect loud cheers even after the little Argentine's name is called because following his name would definitely eb the name of maybe a world class defender or a top-rated striker.

What's your reaction?
