The Ghana Football Association has confirmed that Kevin-Prince Boateng has made himself available to play for Ghana again. The AC Milan midfielder, 24, had announced his retirement from international football in November 2011 after 18 months playing for Ghana, citing frequent injuries.
"Before Ghana played Sudan he had confirmed to the coach he was coming back to play", GFA president Kwesi Nyantekyi said on South African TV. "Unfortunately he got injured during training with AC Milan and so could not make it."
Boateng, who has Ghanaian and German parentage, last played for Ghana in October 2010 during the Africa Cup of Nations. An ex-Germany Under-19 player, Boateng switched nationality in 2010 to represent the Black Stars. His decision to retire after came after he helped Ghana reached the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup.
Last week, Andre and Jordan Ayew also reversed their decisions to retire from international football, giving Nyantekyi reason to feel confident about Ghana's chances at qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. "Our position has not changed - we think we need all the best players available to make themselves available for the Black Stars," he said. "If we have the Ayews, K-P Boateng, Michael Essien to join the squad that will make it formidable, even capable of winning the World Cup."
