Liverpool's Gerrard escapes FA rap over pub brawl
He will not face an FA inquiry into his late-night arrest after a pub brawl.

New Delhi: Steven Gerrard was taken into police custody in the wee hours of Monday morning, after he and five friends were accused of attacking a DJ at a Southport nightclub.

The Liverpool captain has since been released, and investigations will continue until the constabulary decide whether or not to press ahead with charges of a 'section 20 assault'.

However, Gerrard's place in England's upcoming friendly with Spain has not been jeopardised, as the Football Association have declared that they won't even consider sanctioning the 28-year-old - unless he is found guilty.

"No one knows the full facts so we are not even discussing this matter. No player is banned from representing England while they are the subject of a police inquiry," an FA spokesperson said in The Sun.

"That position would only change in the case of a conviction for a serious criminal offence. Then the case would be considered on its individual merits."

England will face the European champions in a friendly clash on February 11 at Sevilla's Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
