Superlatives fail to encapsulate the utter greatness that Erling Haaland seems destined for. The Manchester City striker has broken Premier League records galore in his short stint at the club already, and has taken the world by storm with his unrelenting knack for scoring goals.
The Norwegian now stands at the precipice of greatness, as he lies a mere goal away from upstaging none other than Cristiano Ronaldo himself to set a new goalscoring record.
Etihad has become Haaland’s stomping grounds, as the phenom has already registered 70 goal involvements in just 50 games since signing for the defending champions.
Haaland has found himself an outstanding run of form for the club, having registered nine goals in his opening four Premier League matches this season, including back-to-back hat-tricks in the process.

His nine goals also broke the great Wayne Rooney’s record of eight goals in Manchester United’s first four matches of 2011/12, to set a Premier League record for most goals scored in a team’s first four matches of a Premier League season.
All of his exploits so far this season has taken his overall tally of goals for City to a mind-boggling 99 in just 103 appearances, and he now lies just one mere goal away from ousting yet another legendary scorer of the game: Cristiano Ronaldo.

If the 24-year-old scores against Italian side Inter Milan in City’s UEFA Champions League opener, he will also break Cristiano Ronaldo’s record for the fastest player to score 100 goals for one club.
Former Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo set his record not at Old Trafford, but rather for “Los Blancos” Real Madrid, scoring a century of goals in just 105 appearance for the club.
The Portuguese great would go on to cement himself as the greatest goalscorer ever in the history of the decorated club, ending his career so far with Real Madrid having netted 451 times in 438 competitive appearances.
With how prolific young Haaland has been over his short tenure so far at Manchester City, one can’t put it past the Norwegian to progress onwards to outshine the likes of the best in the business soon, if all pans out in his favour.
Asked whether he was surprised by the Norwegian’s uncanny knack for scoring goals, City boss Pep Guardiola joked about his own goalscoring record when he was a player at FC Barcelona.

“A little bit, yeah. Do you know why? I played 11 years as a professional, as a football player, I was a football player in the past you know, and I scored 11 goals. This guy, in four games, scored nine,” Guardiola joked in a presser before City’s UEFA Champions League opener against Inter.
“So he has one more game and he can equalise me, imagine if this surprised me?”
