London: The FA Cup quarter-final clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Bolton Wanderers was abandoned minutes before half-time after Fabrice Muamba collapsed on the White Hart Lane pitch. The midfielder fell to the ground unchallenged in the 41st minute of the first half before paramedics promptly rushed onto the pitch to provide mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and use a defibrillator in attempts to revive him.
As the 23-year-old was stretchered off down the tunnel, referee Howard Webb called both teams off the pitch. The game was later abandoned. The score was 1-1 when match officials decided to call off the match.
Match got off to a lively start as visitors took the lead thank to own goal by Spurs' winger Gareth Bale in the sixth minute but the hosts hit back in the eleventh minute thanks to the goal from right-back Kyle Walker.
Players surrounding Muamba looked distraught, while Bolton chairman Phil Gartside rushed from the stands to the sidelines.
A Bolton spokesman at the ground confirmed: "Fabrice Muamba has been taken to hospital following his collapse but we will not be releasing any further information at this stage."
