Visa problems stall FIFA officials India visit
The Indians would have to wait a little longer to see the FIFA officials.

New Delhi: The FIFA officials who were to visit India to inspect the venues recommended for the laying of the artificial turfs shall not turn-up as scheduled due to visa problems.

On the eve of the Nehru Cup finals, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) had announced that a team of FIFA experts shall come over and examine the state of the grounds recommended for the artificial turfs from September 14th to the 21st.

FIFA’s ‘Win in India with India’ programme aims at developing Indian football at the elite level with the primary focus being on the infrastructure. As part of this scheme, FIFA has promised India 11 astro-turfs while the Indian FA had earlier written to the concerned state associations to help them identify the land.

A three member sub-committee comprising of Sunil Bharadwaj, Inder Singh and Larsing Ming Sawyan was formed to discuss the potential venues where the turfs could be laid. The committee recommended eight centres of which five had complied with the pre-requisites, which were to be inspected by the FIFA officials.

FIFA’s two member team had a UK national from Switzerland and a Sri Lankan, with the former having issues with regards to visa.

The AIFF have informed the concerned state associations of the latest happening and added that any future development in this regard shall be intimated.
