The upcoming DC series, The Penguin, is scheduled to be released on Max late in 2024. The Batman spinoff series is being teased by Colin Farrell, who describes it as “incredibly violent.” The series will feature Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot, a Gotham City gangster.

In an interview with Jonatan Blomberg of MovieZine, Farrell was asked what fans might anticipate from The Penguin while he was promoting his new Apple TV+ series Sugar. The actor told the publication that the TV series is “incredibly violent,” which should satisfy fans of The Batman who were hoping for an extremely violent R-rated version of the movie. Prior to Matt Reeves’ The Batman hitting theatres in March 2022, the film’s rating generated a lot of internet debate. Although many comic book fans had hoped for the first Dark Knight movie to get an R rating, it was only given a PG-13.

When it came to filming The Penguin series, Farrell remarked, “It was a long and really wonderful experience.”

“It’s dark; that’s what I can tell you about it. It’s really dark. It’s really heavy, I think— it certainly was doing it. Which is not to say I didn’t have fun, I had an amazing time doing it. It’s incredibly violent.”

He claimed that it is the story of a man’s ascent to the position of power or social standing that he has always fantasised about having.

The actor stated that Carmine Falcone’s death at the very end of The Batman creates a vacuum in Gotham that has to be filled and that numerous individuals are vying for that authority.

This is Oswald’s story as he attempts to reach the top despite remarkable challenges, he added.

Apart from Farrell, who was recently nominated for an Academy Award, the cast for the villain’s solo series includes Cristin Milioti (How I Met Your Mother), who plays Sofia Falcone, the daughter of Carmine and Oswald’s main obstacle for dominance of Gotham’s criminal underworld.

Rival gangsters Salvatore Maroni and Johnny Vitti are portrayed by Clancy Brown (Gen V) and Michael Kelly (House of Cards), respectively.

In addition, Michael Zegen, who starred in The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel, plays Alberto, Sofia’s brother. The supporting cast is comprised of Francois Chau, Carmen Ejogo, Theo Rossi, and Rhenzy Feliz.
