How to Migrate Your Minecraft Account

It is no longer possible to migrate your Minecraft account to Microsoft. If you didn't migrate your legacy Mojang account to a new Microsoft account before December 18, 2023, you are no longer able to migrate your account. Old Mojang accounts are no longer valid. You can no longer sign into your Mojang account on the Minecraft website or the Minecraft: Java Edition launcher. Microsoft support is no longer assisting with migration-related questions. After the conclusion of the migration period, customer service will not help you migrate your old account.

If Your Missed Your Chance to Migrate

You will need to buy the game again. If you didn't migrate your legacy Mojang account within the migration time period, you will need to create a new Microsoft account, or sign into an existing Microsoft account and purchase a new copy of Minecraft. Playing Your Old Game

If you have not migrated your account, you cannot play your old game. If you do not have a Microsoft account, you cannot log into the Minecraft: Java Edition launcher. Therefore, you cannot play your old version of Minecraft. However, if you buy Minecraft again with a Microsoft account, you can play your old game.

Playing Old Worlds

You can access your old Java Edition worlds with a new Microsoft account. These worlds are stored on your computer's hard drive. You can play them if you buy the game again with a new Microsoft account. However, you will be starting with a new account at the default spawn point. Your new username will need to be added to the "Allowlist" of any multiplayer servers you were a part of.

Capes, Items, and Usernames

You will not be able to access items tied to your account. This includes capes, skins, inventory items, and your username. These items are unrecoverable. However, if your world has items stored in chests, you can still recover those items. Microsoft has said that they will release old Mojang usernames at some point in the future. They have not given a date or provided any additional details.

You gain access to both Java Edition and Bedrock Edition. If you purchased Minecraft with a Microsoft account, either by creating a new account or migrating your old account, you gain access to both Minecraft: Java Edition and Minecraft: Bedrock Edition. Bedrock Edition allows you to play cross-platform on a PC, mobile devices, or any game console. Java Edition allows you to play on your PC with mods. Click Next. Follow the instructions to complete setting up your new account.
