Open Slack on your iPhone or iPad. It’s the icon containing many squares and an “S” inside. You’ll usually find it on the home screen.
Tap the rainbow hashtag. It’s at the top-left corner of Slack. A menu will slide out on the left side of the screen.
Swipe right on the menu. This opens the “Direct Messages” screen.
Tap iPhone Quick Compose. It’s at the top-right corner of the screen. This brings you to the “New Conversation” screen.
Select the contact you want to message. To do so, scroll down and tap the circle beside the person’s name. You can select multiple people to send a group direct message. If you’re having trouble finding the person, try typing their name into the search bar at the top of the screen, then tap the correct person in the results.
Tap Start. A new conversation will appear.
Type your message. To bring up the keyboard, tap the typing area at the bottom of the screen.
Tap Send. Your direct message will be delivered immediately to the selected recipient(s).
