How to Post a Live Photo on Instagram

Adding the Live Photo to Your Story as a Boomerang

Open the Instagram app on your iPhone. Tap the multicolor camera icon on your home screen, or search for "Instagram" in your app menu.

Create a new story. Tap on your profile picture with the words “Your Story” at the top of your feed.

Select your Live Photo. Swipe the screen up from the bottom, or tap the icon in the bottom left corner of the screen that shows your latest saved photo.

Press and hold on the screen until the word Boomerang appears. This will create a Boomerang out of the Live Photo. The Boomerang app creates videos similar to GIFS that are composed of multiple rapidly-captured bursts. It is not a moving video, but creates a good replica.

Post to your story. Tap Your Story at the bottom.

Navigate to the Instagram home page. Start a new post by tapping the + icon in the center at the bottom. Tap Library, then select the newly created Boomerang.

Converting the Live Photo into a GIF

Open the App Store on your iPhone. Tap the multicolor camera icon on your home screen, or search for "Instagram" in your app menu.

Search for an app that converts Live Photos to GIFs. Try searching for “live photo gif”. Lively is highly rated and popular. Tap Get to download the app.

Open the Lively app once downloaded. Look for it in the home screen, or search for "Lively" in the app menu.

Select the Live Photo you wish to convert. Tap the photo, then tap GIF in the top left.

Save the GIF. Tap Export GIF, then tap Save.

Create a post. Navigate to the Instagram home page. Tap the + icon in the center at the bottom.

Post the GIF. Tap Library, then select the newly created GIF.
