How to Say "How Are You" in Nepali
How to Say "How Are You" in Nepali
Nepali is spoken in Nepal, a country sandwiched between India and China. It isn't a widely spoken language, however, knowing the basics is a great help, if you ever travel to Nepal, or know someone from there. Here's how to ask someone how they are or how they're doing, in Nepali.
Steps

Saying It Casually

Say "तिमीलाई कस्तो छ?" This is pronounced "tee-mee-lai kas-to chuh". This is supposed to be said casually, to a friend, or someone your age. It is best not to say this in a formal environment.

Use "तिमि कसरी हो?" as a less common alternative. It is pronounced "tee-mee kas-ree ho."

Saying It Formally

Use ""तपाइलाई कस्तो छ?" for formal settings. This is pronounced "tapai-lai kas-to chuh."

Replace "तपाइलाई कस्तो छ" with "तपाइ कसरी हो", (pronounced tapai kas-ree ho) as an alternative. Keep in mind that it isn't used too often.

Know that the only difference between the informal and the formal way of saying this is the replacement of "तिमि" with "तपाई". Both, however, mean "you".

Replying and Asking Back

To reply to "how are you?" in Nepali, say "मलाइ सन्चै छ" which is pronounced as "ma-laai san-che chuh" and means "I'm doing well."

Use a simpler alternative if desired. Try "म ठिक छु" which means "I'm fine." It is pronounced as "ma tick choo".

Ask someone back. To do this, just say "तिम्रो के छ?" pronounced "tim-ro kay-chuh".

What's your reaction?
