Former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao’s daughter Surabhi Vani Devi won the legislative elections, which was held in Telangana on March 14, from the Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar graduates constituency. The process of counting of votes concluded on Saturday and Vani Devi, who had contested with the Telangana Rastra Samiti’s ticket, was declared the winner.
Securing 1,89,339 votes, Vani Devi defeated her nearest opponent and Bharatiya Janata Party-BJP candidate N Ramchander Rao, the sitting MLC. She won 56.2% votes.
BJP’s Rao secured 1,37,566 votes and independent candidate Prof Nageswar got 67,383 votes. Meanwhile Congress candidate Chinna Reddy managed to pull 36,726 votes.
In another seat, Khammam-Warangal-Nalgonda graduates, TRS candidate and the sitting MLC, Palla Rajeswar Reddy is set to retain his seat.
The counting process is underway for the constituency and the TRS candidate secured 1,32,681 votes after the elimination of Teenmar Mallanna, who ran as an independent candidate.
“The ruling party purchased the votes and won the election. I am losing by just three percent votes. I don’t mind it. It is definitely a victory of the people. I will continue my fight against the government,” Mallanna told media.
Since the TRS candidate could not get the required 50 percent plus votes, the second preferential votes of Mallanna will be transferred to Rajeswar Reddy.
Meanwhile, the founder of Telangana Jana Samiti (TJS), Prof Kodandaram, was eliminated from the race at 1,02,884 votes.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao congratulated Vani Devi and Rajeswar Reddy.
Vani Devi met CM KCR and thanked him for nominating her as the MLC candidate and helping her to win the election. The Chief Minister appreciated the TRS field level workers, leaders, who worked for the victory of Vani Devi.
