Thirteen people were killed and 27 injured, eight of them critically, when a bus in which they were travelling plunged into a gorge near Devprayag in Tehri district of Uttarakhand early this morning.
The Uttarakhand roadways bus was carrying 40 people when it fell into 200-mt deep gorge at Saknidhar between Vyasi and Devprayag, Tehri SSP Janmejay Khanduri said. The ill-fated bus was heading from Delhi to Guptkashi, he said adding 13 passengers, all males, died on the spot. Their bodies had been recovered, the SSP said adding the reason behind the mishap was being investigated.
Eight of the injured were being treated in Devprayag and the remaining 19 were brought to Rishikesh from where eight critically wounded have been referred to Jollygrant Hospital in Dehradun, he said. When told about initial reports saying the bus had fallen into a river, the SSP said there was some confusion initially about the exact place where the mishap had taken place.
