15 per cent Bihar polls by noon amidst relative peace
The first phase of voting in Bihar proceeds at a slow pace amidst a massive presence of security personnel.

Patna: In spite of a CPI (ML) (L) supporter being shot dead and an RJD candidate arrested as an estimated 15 per cent voters have exercised their franchise by noon.

Voting is taking place in 57 Assembly constituency spread over 12 Naxal-hit districts in the first of the four-phase Bihar polls.

However, Director General of Police Ashish Ranjan Sinha said that the CPI (ML) (L) activist, Musafir Paswan?s killing was not poll-related and the man was shot dead by a local villager due to personal enmity.

RJD candidate for Deo Assembly seat Suresh Paswan and seven others have been arrested while going around in the constituency with weapons in violation of prohibitory orders, police said.

Polling was cancelled, in accordance with an Election Commission directive, in four booths in Imamganj (reserved) constituency, as security personnel did not arrive there on time, Gaya District Magistrate-cum-District Election Officer Sandeep Poundrik said.

He added that the polling in the constituency would take place on October 21 along with voting in Gaya (town), Gaya (mufassil), Bodh Gaya and Belaganj seats.

Elections in four Assembly seats in Gaya were deferred by the Election Commission to ensure enhanced mobility of central Para-military forces in the Naxalite-hit district.
