New Delhi: A 19-year-old student of Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur was found dead alongside the railway track with head injuries in the wee hours of Wednesday. G Saikumar Reddy, hailing from Prakasham district of Andhra Pradesh, was a second year Materials Science and Engineering student. The autopsy report said that the reason behind the death was head injury.
While prima facie it seems to be the case of suicide, the institute is conducting an inquiry as per usual provisions to ascertain the reason behind Saikumar's death. "We are investigating the case. We can't call it a suicide as his body was not cut into pieces and he might have gone out and hit the train accidentally. There is a dhaba near the accident spot," said AK Ghosh, Dean of Students Affairs.
The institute has also declined reports that student was into depression. "We are investigating it. He was an average student," added Ghosh.
His parents have been informed about the incident and they are yet to reach Kanpur. The institute had expressed condolence with the sudden demise of the student.
