TIRUPUR: Two teenage boys were rescued, after one of them escaped from a private garment unit due to torture here on Monday.Official sources from Tirupur based on NGO Social Awareness and Voluntary Education (SAVE) said Gogul (16), son of Mahalingam of Needamangalam in Tiruvarur, had dropped out of school while in Class IX. As he had no interest in continuing studies, he and his friend approached a broker for work. They got employment at a garment unit at Karuvampalayam in Tirupur a week ago. Jagadeesan (15), son of Azhagarsamy and Gogul’s neighbour, had studied up to Class VIII.On Sunday night, Gogul was allegedly beaten up by the unit owner using a belt for making a small mistake at work. The next day morning, the boy escaped from the unit. Staff of Mariyalaya, an NGO, found the teenager at the Tirupur railway station and informed the SAVE  volunteers through child  helpline.  The SAVE volunteers rescued Gogul and Jagadeesan and also made arrangements for taking them to their native place.“A complaint would be sent to the Department of Factories regarding the issue and legal action would be taken with the help of officials,” sources added.
