Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that 38 government colleges in the state would get 41 new graduate and post-graduate courses.
Briefing cabinet decisions taken in the special cabinet held on Thursday, he said there were 10,229 applicants yet to gain admission to Plus I courses.
He said 1341 candidates who received allotment to Plus 1 courses have not joined the schools so far. There are 4003 vacancies yet to be filled in the various districts. The Chief Minister said all those who wish to get Plus 1 admissions would be given admissions.
Under these circumstances, eight additional seats will be provided in the humanities and commerce groups while three seats will be given in the science group. In addition, if students were found in need of starting new batches these will be started in government schools.
Those who wish to gain admission to the respective courses may appear for counselling in three days.

He said all those wish to get Plus one admission will be given in the schools which are near to their residence as far as possible. The special cabinet discussed the drought situation in the state. A detailed memorandum will be submitted to the Centre. The power crisis also was discussed in the meeting.
SOLATIUM ANNOUNCED
Cabinet has decided to give `3 lakh each as solatium to the dependents of those who died in the landslide and flash floods in Kannur and Kozhikode. For those who have lost land in the calamities, a maximum of one acre will be given.
He said the ministers who had visited the flood-hit areas and the district collectors have submitted their reports. The losses in the calamity have been roughly estimated.

When pointed out that MLAs T N Prathapan and V D Satheesan had been summoned to New Delhi to meet Rahul Gandhi, Oommen Chandy chidingly asked the reporters whether they were now convinced of the fact that Prathapan was a Congress leader.
