539 flood victims rehabilitated

VIJAYAWADA: In all, 539 flood victims, including 105 children, have been shifted to seven rehabilitation centres in the city.
The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation has set up seven rehabilitation centres for flood victims at Pandit Nehru Bus Station, APSRMCH School and VM Ranga School in Krishnalanka, cement godown at Ranigarithota, VMC Elementary School at Darsipet, VMC High School at Patamatalanka and SMAK Urdu High School at Bhavanipuram. Many lowlying areas in Krishnalanka, Ranadive Nagar, Tarakarama Nagar, Bhupesh Gupta Nagar, Geetha Nagar, Ramalingeswara Nagar and Bhavanipuram have been inundated following Krishna river floods due to release of water from Nagarjuna Sagar.

The irrigation, revenue and police are patrolling the river bund to prevent youngsters from venturing into the Krishna to retrieve the articles being washed away by flood water. Some hutdwellers on the river bed, shifted their belongings to the Krishna banks following submersion of their dwellings.
