BANGALORE: An eight-year-old boy was killed on the spot after he was hit by a private bus at Peenya-Hesaraghatta Junction on Tumkur Road in Peenya traffic police station limits on Sunday morning. Irked by the incident public pelted stones on the bus and staged a protest by blocking vehicular movement on the road.The victim has been identified as Somanath, a resident of Kempegowda Nagar and a second standard student. He was the son of Danappa, a native of Bijapur.According to the police, Somanath was going to his native place for Dasara holiday when the mishap occurred. Danappa was taking Somanath and his16-year-old cousin to the village. Before taking a bus, Danappa wanted to withdraw money from an ATM centre. Asking the boys to stand on the footpath, he crossed the road to reach the ATM centre.“As his father was coming back after widrawing money, Somanath pulled his hand from his cousin’s grasp and started running towards him. Seeing his son, Danappa shouted and asked him to go back. But Somanath did not listen and a private bus that was coming towards the city hit the boy, killing him on the spot,” the police added. Danappa, who saw his son’s death in front of him, lost control and started pelting stones at the bus. Even the public, enraged by the accident started pelting stones on the bus and staged a protest by blocking the road. It effected the movement of vehicles on the busy road for more than two hours. However, with the intervention of local MLA, Muniraju, the crowd was pacified. He assured them of taking suitable measures to avert such incidents in future, the police added.The police arrested the bus driver in connection with the incident. A post mortem was conducted at M S Ramaiah Hospital mortuary.
