BANGALORE: Jagriti Theatre announced the introduction of ‘Theatre Season’ — a collection of six plays, handpicked by the Jagriti team, to be performed by theatre companies from India, the UK and the USA.The season begins in December 2011 and extends until June 2012. Each production will run for 18 shows spanning two and a half weeks and over three weekends. Briefing media persons here on Thursday, co-founder of Jagriti Theatre , Jagdish Raja said, “The concept of a ‘Season of Plays’ is a novel one in India. The initiative, in the long run, will help nurture a community of theatre practitioners and audiences. Performers, designers and technicians can look forward to a sustained run to help hone their craft as well as ensure a modicum of financial support. As for the audience, as season ticket holders, they are assured of spending one evening a month watching a performance of global standard,”Aristophane’s Lysistrata is the inaugural performance. The play is a modern Indian adaptation of a comic account of one woman’s mission to end the Peloponnesian War. The Golden Dragon (January 2012) is a theatrical fable of modern life and migration in the Middle East. The Interview (February 2012) is to be followed by The Dreams of Tipu Sultan (March 2012), which is based on the last days of Tipu Sultan as seen through the eyes of an Indian court historian and a British Oriental scholar.  A Twist of Lime (May 2012) comprises three stories linked by irony while shipwrecked (June 2012) is an ensemble performance where three actors essay 22 different roles.The subscriptions to ‘The Jagriti Theatre Season 2011-2012’ are priced as follows: For the six-play season, 8 pm show on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday is priced at Rs. 2,500 while Friday and Saturday’s shows are priced at Rs. 4, 200 and the 3 pm and 6.30 pm shows on Sunday at Rs. 3,500.
