KOCHI: As Kochi grabbed global eyeballs during the last four days, thanks to the killing of two fishermen by the crew of Italian vessel Enrica Lexie, two officers in the state police were working tenaciously to see the end of the continuing imbroglio. A major share of the credit for taking into custody the Marines who shot killed the fishermen last Wednesday should go to Kochi city police Commissioner M R Ajith Kumar and Assistant Commissioner M N Ramesh.Ajith Kumar had been conducting talks with the Italian delegates and the crew members for the last four days on behalf of the nation. “It is our responsibility. We should carry out our duties regardless of the severity and amplitude of the issue. More actions have to be taken so that the probe would be conducted smoothly and efficiently,” said Ajith Kumar. The assistant police commissioner also played a crucial role in the investigation and coordinated talks with the Italian diplomats. He had been to the ship more than 10 times since the ship was anchored in the outer sea last Thursday. He has also donned the role of a ‘messenger’ between the Italians and the government.
