New Delhi: Brains and brawn both score low marks when it comes to what women want. If etiquette guru Debrett's latest survey result is to be believed, women would rather their men slightly low on brain power but well mannered.
So the next time you are out with the woman you want to fall for you, instead of dabbing the most expensive cologne or 'wet-setting' your hair, try holding the door open for her.
But it's not all that simple. Even Einstein would fail to score with the ladies: Two-thirds of those surveyed said they'd prefer a well-mannered man when compared to someone who has the brains. Things get even worse for the pretty boys as only five per cent women fall for looks.
The majority of the women surveyed felt that men really don't know how to "behave" these days and insist the boys need some serious help with manners. It's funny, we thought the metrosexual man was quite spiffy.
It seems the men are aware of the situation too as half the men surveyed felt they are confused about how much chivalry goes in the times of man-woman-equal. However, when it comes to settling for Mr Right, even the men know that women would go for the good boys, or so says the survey.
While slam-bam-thank you-ma'am is definitely out, good manners do not mean a constant barrage of thank you-please-sorry either. "You don't have to mind your Ps and Qs all the time but small gestures do add up," says Jo Bryant, editor Manners for Men in the Daily Mail.
Manners for Men is a book that offers advice to men on the basis of survey findings.
