BANGALORE: Lack of water supply, garbage strewn in vacant sites and lack of bus shelters are some of the common issues confronting the Konanakunte ward. When City Express interacted with the residents of this ward, they complained of lack of water supply in this area. Speaking about their problems, Manjunath K said, “The bore well was dug up several years ago, and the water supply was regular then. But for the past three years, the bore well has been closed and now we get water only twice a week and that too at unstipulated timings.”Garbage strewn on the pavements as well as near bore wells have been causing immense problems to the residents. Many residents complained that the water cannot be used as it is mixed up with garbage. “Garbage is dumped on the hand pump every day. We have stopped using this water years ago.” The residents also said that they have filed a complaint to the Corporator and concerned authorities about the garbage dumping problem in gutters, pavements and roads but in vain. There are no civic workers in this area to collect garbage resulting in waste being dumped in the vacant sites which has been growing to unimaginable proportions.Roads in this ward are not well asphalted and are filled up with potholes. Commuters in this ward complain about the lack of bus facility and also about the lack of bus shelters. “During summers and monsoon season, it is impossible to wait for buses here. Since there is lack of bus facility, it is difficult for commuters to reach schools, offices and colleges on time,” said Abhilasha Sathish, a student. She added, “It is difficult for the senior citizens to wait for the buses for long hours in these bus stops as there are no bus shelters provided in these areas. We have complained about this issue to the authorities but no measures have been taken.”This ward has seen no development over the years. Residents are agitated by the irresponsibility of the authorities, to take up any action. The Corporator of Konanakunte ward, Shashirekha Jayaram was unavailable for any comments. While her husband, Jayaram commented that it is the responsibility of the residents to maintain cleanliness in their areas.
