New Delhi: BJP MP from Gorakhpur Yogi Adityanath resigned from the party's national executive complaining that he was being subjected to constant humiliation in the state unit of the party.
Yogi, in his resignation letter addressed to BJP President Rajnath Singh, said, "For some time now, I am being subjected to constant humiliation in the state unit of the party."
"In such a situation, it is neither in my favour nor in the favour of the party that I should continue as a member of the national executive of the party," Yogi said in the letter.
The BJP MP, a third-term member from Gorakhpur, met Rajnath Singh and submitted his resignation.
Yogi, arrested in connection with riots in Gorakhpur, had three days ago broke down in Lok Sabha narrating what he termed as a "political conspiracy" of the Mulayam Singh Yadav government against him alleging it was out to "malign and torment" him.
Later talking to reporters, Yogi alleged that BJP was neglecting Hindu ideology and cadre working for it in Uttar Pradesh.
"Under the present circumstances, I feel I am of no use in the party. For me the ideology is more important," he said. Indicating that he was ready to join hands with those supporting the Hindutva ideology, he said, "I will support every candidate who stands for this ideology."
The statement assumes significance as Yogi had yesterday met expelled BJP leader Uma Bharti.
He went to add that if the situation arises he was even ready to resign from the primary membership of the party. "The party leaders in Uttar Pradesh are conniving with the Samajwadi Party government to suppress Hindu forces," he alleged.
On the recent incidents of violence in Gorakhpur, he criticised the party for being totally silent on police atrocities against Hindus.
Yogi, who heads the Hindu Yuva Vahini outfit in UP, has also understood to have submitted a list of 32 candidates for the upcoming state Assembly elections, but "none of them were found to be worthy of fielding" by the party leadership.
