Singapore: Four years ago South Korea's Ahn Jung-hwan famously scored the golden goal that knocked Italy out of the World Cup. It also cost him his job at Italian outfit Perugia.

Now playing with Bundesliga club MSV Duisburg, Ahn has no worries that finding the net for South Korea against Germany during the World Cup in June will force him once again to seek new employment.

"I don't think that will ever happen again," he told Kicker.

"I can not imagine Duisburg telling me to leave if I score against Germany at the World Cup. What happened in Perugia was a one-off."

Against Italy, Ahn famously rose above an aging Paolo Maldini to nod in the golden goal that sent his country into the quarter-finals, and Perugia's president Luciano Guacci crazy.

"He was a phenomenon only against Italy and I have no intention of paying the salary of someone who has ruined Italian soccer," Guacci said at the time, although he later backtracked.

Ahn, who became an idol in South Korea, left the club and ended up in Japan before moving to Metz in France, where he struggled to hold down a first team place.

He signed for Duisburg last month, saying he was playing out of place at Metz and this proved to be his undoing.

"It is wrong to say I did not cut it at Metz," he said. "I played on the left hand side of midfield and that was not good for the team or me. That is why I wanted to leave."

What's your reaction?
