As Mahatma Gandhi said “Silent protest can be powerful”, Dr Soumyajit Dutta from Alipurduar district has chosen a unique way to make his voice of protest heard. His method of protest is displayed through a stamp on his prescription.

Many doctors have been protesting against the RG Kar case, and the doctors at Alipurduar District Hospital are no exception. Dr Soumyajit Dutta, the head of the ENT department at the district hospital has found an innovative way to express his protest. He hands over prescriptions to his patients, marked with a message seeking justice for the victims of the RG Kar case.

Dr Dutta, who also treats patients at his residence, has received appreciation from those he sees for his subtle yet impactful form of protest. He shared, “I work at a government hospital, so I must follow certain rules. However, I protest the brutal incident involving a woman doctor by using this stamp. Patients visit me from places like Assam and Bhutan, and I hope this message of protest reaches them as well.”

It is reported that Dr Dutta is not alone—Dr Priyanka Samal from Falakata Hospital is also using a stamped prescription to seek justice for the victim. Like doctors across the state, those in the Alipurduar district are deeply concerned about the RG Kar case.

Besides, the parents of the 31-year-old trainee doctor who was raped and murdered at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital joined the protest t the government medical facility on Wednesday, a day before the Supreme Court hearing. The victim’s parents said they wanted to join protesting students fighting for justice.

“We want to go to RG Kar. My daughter worked there and died there. We want to be at that place with the protesting doctors,” the victim’s father was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

The protesting doctors at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital said the parents’ decision to join them will motivate them to continue their fight. One of the protesting doctors said they would stand by the victim’s family until they get justice.

The trainee doctors have visited the parents several times to provide them with emotional support. They also informed the parents about their justice movement.

The young doctors also continued their protest march to Kolkata Police Headquarters in Lalbazar and demanded the resignation of Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal.
