BIJAPUR: Water level in Almatti reservoir has been rising in the past week. Water levels touched 514.17 m against maximum level of 519.6 m, sources said. Last year at this point of time the level was 513.80 m.Inflow into the reservoir was about 18,900 cusecs.Good rains last week in the catchment areas and Maharashtra has brightened hopes of level reaching the brim.Krishna tributaries like Ghataprabha, Doodhaganga, Vedaganga and Hirnyakeshi will get the water if rains are good. There are major dams at Koyana and Rajapur in Maharashtra.Excess water would be released only when these reservoirs are full. Sangli, Karad, Mahabaleshwar and Satara in Maharashtra and Belgaum in Karnataka should get good monsoon if Almatti reservoir has to get sumptuous water.Power generation was stopped at Almatti due to paucity of water last April.Officials hope that if monsoon continues for a few more weeks, power production might start in the end of July.
