KOCHI:  In a bid to resolve transportation problems in rural pockets, plans are afoot to construct two bridges in Aluva.Anwar Sadath MLA has sent the proposal for  the Parappuram-Vallamkadavu Bridge over the Periyar and Alumgakadavu Bridge over Manjali Thodu in Nedumbassery Panchayat for sanction.“The PWD has prepared the project proposal and we are awaiting the administrative sanction. The projects will be included in the coming budget,” said Anwar Sadath MLA. With an approximate length of 300-metres and width of 12.23-metres, the Parappuram-Vallamkadavu Bridge is estimated to cost `28-crore. When the bridge becomes a reality, it will be of great relief for those travelling from Kanjoor to Perumbavoor as then they can avoid passing through Kalady and this will shorten their journey by around seven kilometres, said PWD assistant executive engineer E P Benny. It will also benefit those staying in Kanjoor and Sreemoolanagaram panchayats and nearby areas. The PWD is awaiting the nod for the proposal submitted for commencing preliminary investigation, he added. Preliminary investigation has been completed for the Alumkadavu Bridge which will connect Maikad with Parambussery. This short-cut connecting Maikad to Kurumassery will help save a distance of around eight kilometres. The people in these rural pockets usually resort to water transport and the bridge will be blessing to them. The 125-metre long bridge is estimated to cost `9.5-crore. The bridge will have six spans, said Benny.Meanwhile, Anwar Sadath MLA added, “Also, Aluva Manappuram will get a new permanent bridge by next Shivratri celebrations.”
