Jammu: Fresh protests have broken out at Purani mandi area of Jammu over the Amarnath row.

Police fired teargas shells to disperse the agitators even as reports of more protests at Nai Basti area came in.

Only a day before, thirty persons, including a Senior Superintendent of Police, were injured in renewed protests in various parts of Jammu.

The Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti’s call for chakka jam had caused a complete shutdown. The situation is not expected to be resolved too soon as the Samiti has already extended its strike till August 31.

Roads were deserted on Monday in response to the Sangharsh Samiti’s call.

Stone pelting incidents and sporadic violence were reported from Kathua area too. The government and the Samiti have almost arrived at a solution. The Samiti’s decision to continue its protests is seen an attempt to hasten the same.

It is widely understood that the land will be given to the Shrine Board for three months during the yatra period and the government wants to draft the agreement in a manner that raises no strife.

Meanwhile, in Jammu itself, security forces are on a massive hunt to track down a group of armed militants who have infiltrated into the Indian territory from across the border.

The infiltration bid had gained due to the firing from the Pakistani side early on Tuesday. India's Defence Minister A K Anthony has expressed that the firing on the India pakistan border is a matter of concern.
