Ancient Well Made Up of 27 Rivers? People Believe Water in This UP Temple is 'Miraculous'
A 5,000-year-old well in Uttar Pradesh’s Shri Siddhnath Temple is believed to contain water from 27 rivers

The Shri Siddhnath Temple in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh is home to a well believed to be around 5,000 years old. This ancient well is renowned for its ‘extraordinary’ properties and draws widespread attention for its claimed source of water from 27 rivers.

The well is both an ancient marvel and a key religious site. During Shivratri and Sawan, devotees gather at the Shri Siddhnath Temple to perform Jalabhishek, a ritual offering water to Lord Shiva in the form of a Shivling.

The water from this well is revered for its purported miraculous qualities, and locals believe it fulfills devotees’ wishes. Shri Ravi Giri Maharaj told News18, “The well’s water is considered pure due to its origin from 27 different rivers. This unique characteristic imparts sacred properties to the water, making it highly valued in religious practices. Many worshippers even carry this water home for personal rituals.”

To preserve the sanctity of the well, a dedicated area has been created above it for the statues of Lord Krishna and Radha. The well is now equipped with several taps, allowing devotees to easily access and use the water for worship.

The Shri Siddhnath Temple’s well is part of a broader tradition in Uttar Pradesh, where numerous wells and kunds are steeped in local lore and spiritual significance.
